Bulk SMS Software Project Documentation

Objective:

The software is developed on VB .NET platform. A GSM Compliant Mobile Phone (acting as GSM Modem) is connected to Computer via Serial port, Bluetooth, Infrared or USB Cable (whichever is supported by the phone).

The Communication(COM) port to which GSM compliant mobile phone is connected could be selected from Combo box with label as Available port. When the software loads, the Combo box automatically displays the list of available COM ports. The destination file can be selected by Browse Button present on the form. The destination file path contains the name of the file which contains a list of mobile numbers in .xls format separated by new line. An intelligent extracting algorithm selects only valid mobile numbers from the list of phone numbers present in the excel file. You have to select the column which contains the phone number. Using send button the messages can be sent to the list of phone numbers. Sent button reads all the messages present in the memory of phone and sim card. ‘Sent Message’ button gives you a log of all sent messages. Using ‘Save Contact’ button you can save the contact details. ‘View Contact Details’ button gives you a detail of all stored contacts.

Business Requirements

The business goal for the application is to support an increase the speed and flexibility of sending sms. Business requirements with the following additional details:

Ø User need a method to upload the excel file which contains the phone numbers.

Ø Admin must see all the details of sent messages through the sent messages option.

Ø User must store the contact details through the save contact option.

Ø User must view all the contact details through the view contacts option.

Ø User must search for any appropriate contact from the list of all contacts.

Ø The application should support the capability to use multi user environment.

User Requirements

User requirements are categorized by user type.

      Admin

Ø View all the sent message details stored in the database.

User

      Upload a excel file which contain the phone numbers.

Select the appropriate column which contains the list of phone numbers.

Send a message to every valid phone number from the list

Store the contact number in the database

View all the contacts from the database

Search for a specific contact from the list of contacts

Operational Requirements

The following requirements provide a high-level view of how the system will run:

Ø Processor usage should not exceed 80 percent during concurrent uses.

Ø Backups will occur incrementally throughout the day.

Ø A full weekly backup is required to WORM drives.

  Ø Ensure that information is easy to access either, and meaningful for the user and the company.

  Ø Minimize the technical knowledge that user need to access the sent sms,  send a new sms, save the contacts.

 

System Requirements

These are additional constraints from a system perspective:

Ø Previous contacts of customer must be imported in the new system.

Ø The administrator must be able to monitor everything from the IT department.

Ø The information must be accessible by everyone in the company as per the rights specify.
